Angry Birds to hit the big time

Best news ever! Official Angry Birds activity parks have just been launched in the UK.

For anyone unfamiliar with Angry Birds, you are missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures.


It is the stress-busting iPhone iPad game where you hurl birds at little green pigs stacked up on pallets, houses, scaffolding and other structures.

There is something immensely satisfying about seeing these little characters explode as they fall from their perches.

 And something equally annoying about the way they grin at you if you run out of birds before you’ve managed to topple the last one.

 As I find myself becoming more and more whipped up into an ecstatic Angry Bird frenzy I am relieved to see that these parks are designed for children AND adults.

 And the game is, to my knowledge, largely enjoyed by grown ups, so I can enjoy this small childish pleasure with the minimum of guilt.

 It is even better when you progress onto a new level and you get to try out a new bird, there is a tiny orange one now that swells into a huge balloon when you launch it.

 And, when you thought it couldn't get any better, you can also download Angry Birds Seasons which sends you an updated version several times a year.
You get to kill smash the Hell out of those irritating piggies against the  backdrop of Halloween, spring, Chinese New year, St Patrick’s Day, and a  variety of other holiday occasions.

 Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 700 million times and is the fastest-rowing game on Facebook.

 There is also the news today of the launch of the new Angry Birds Space game on iTunes, Android, PC and Mac.

 The parks will be built in partnership with Finnish playground equipment maker Lappset and feature Angry Birds-inspired swings, sandpits, climbing towers, slides and outdoor arcade games.

 More like adventure playgrounds than Disney-style attractions, they will be mostly located in cities and towns or attached to existing large-scale theme parks.

 Johan Granholm, Sales and Marketing Director at Lappset Group, said: “A visit to an Angry Birds Activity Park gives the whole family a truly unique experience and creates the platform for a new healthy way of experiencing the Angry Birds theme.”

 Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio’s Mighty Eagle, said: “All of the Angry Birds Activity Parks will be Magic Places which means that when people go there, they will gain access to additional content, rewards and special features such as the latest bird. 

 “There will also be local leader boards so there will be a real incentive to go to the park and exercise.

 "Modern mobile phones have many sensors so the more activity a person does, the more they will be rewarded."

 The very first Angry Birds Activity Parks will be constructed in Finland during the coming summer. 

 There are more to follow in many other countries, and Lappset is currently in talks with two organisations in the UK.

Is it racist to mark St George's day?- Ricky Gervais thinks some may think so

I don’t like Ricky Gervais. I’ve never found him funny, he comes across as self-absorbed, arrogant and sporting a hugely over-inflated opinion of himself. I didn’t get all the fuss people made of that dance thing he did on the Office, and his infamous “two mongs don’t make a right” comments on twitter which seemingly ridiculed disabled people were at the very least, in poor taste. This morning, however, when he raised another issue  close to the bone, I found myself  thinking  he may have a point. On Twitter, he broached the super-sensitive issue of racism speaking about today being St George’s Day, a celebration of all things, well, English. He wrote: “Happy St George’s Day (That’s the day that English people don’t celebrate in case someone thinks they’re racist).” I found myself thinking  “that’s brave of him”, and " that’s an interesting topic, I’m going to blog about it". Jedward spotted in the city, but what were they up to?

I know that hair, I thought to myself as I passed London’s Monument on the way home from work. Those ridiculously elongated, spiky locks, wacky costumes and irritating voices were an immediate giveaway. And of course it only took me a second to recognise Jedward – the X-Factor twins whose ludicrous image and inability to hold a note have propelled them to (semi) fame. I have nothing against them, I am only being mean, and credit where it’s due, they are fiercely determined, and have built up a pretty unique act for themselves. So well done brothers Grimes. But it has to be said, the act is based around being cringe-worthingly bad at everything they try.
